Brief History

Shortly after the change of regime in early 1990, as soon as it became possible, a few software engineers already working abroad at that time decided to found their own workforce leasing company. This is how Gamax was established in May 1990, building on a few existing contracts and connections of the founders. The managing director of the company, Dr. Géza Homonnay had already had experience in managing such activities.

The setup period lasted for about one and a half years, but the expertise and hard work of the owners and the employees, together with some luck, brought great results and the capital of the company grew rapidly.

The activity list of the company was broadened in 1992-1993. Although the main activity remained software development and IT workforce leasing, hardware and software trading also started in Hungary. This was proven to be a very good idea and grew into a subsidiary: Gamaxnet Ltd. was established in 1993. It mainly focuses on the wholesale distribution of data communication and wide-area network (WAN) infrastructures, and up to the present day it has grown into a well-known company with about a HUF 600 million annual turnover.

1993 brought another breakthrough: we started software localization work for Microsoft. In 1994 we were one of the four Eastern-European companies receiving the prestigious "Microsoft Strategic Localization Partner" award. We completed the localization of the programs and documentations of several global companies (including Digital, HP, IBM, Lexmark, Lotus, Motorola, Nokia, Novell, Oracle, Xerox etc). Presently we perform software localization and translation jobs for other Eastern-European languages other than Hungarian.

Quickly realizing the great opportunities in the Internet, we established our internet division in 1997. At first we were involved in website development, and later built up a complex designer-developer-graphics team that is able to provide quality jobs in the whole range of internet-based software developments. This team is mostly involved as subcontractor in major projects, but it also developed its own full-service portal engine, winning several valuable orders. This division was spun off into a separate company called Instantweb Ltd. 3 years ago.

We moved into our recently renovated building in 1998; it is located in the city center, only a few steps from the exclusive Hotel Gellért.

The significant IT boom (Year 2000; Euro-conversion) of the second millennia calmed down around 2001; together with the German recession this resulted in the significant limitation of the German market. This was the time when we moved the primary focus of our activities to Hungary, where we fulfill an evermore determining role in the software development and IT workforce leasing market.

Since 2003, our localization team has been undertaking medical translations; since 2004 we have also been performing these works for the European Union.

As the result of the above mentioned activities, we have managed to significantly increase our turnover each year. We are certain that this process will carry on, since it is guaranteed by such an experienced and dedicated management and team that is flexible and is open to new goals and challenges, and moreover is also able to achieve them.
