I-RAMP³'s vision is to enable a shift from traditional manufacturing systems to intelligent manufacturing systems in the European manufacturing industry. The project aims to create innovative solutions to improve competitiveness in the industrial sector. This can be achieved through rapid, optimised commissioning and operation of the production line. This will significantly reduce commissioning and reconfiguration times and other costs.
At the same time, manufacturing efficiency is improved while costs are reduced.
I-RAMP³ aims to approach the integration of additional functionality in existing and new manufacturing networks with zero commissioning time.
To achieve these goals, the project has four specific objectives.
I-RAMP³ proposes the transformation of traditional manufacturing tools into network-enabled devices (NETDEVs), which are the building blocks of a heterogeneous manufacturing network.
NETDEVs are units that enclose a device, a complex sensor unit, a sensor network or a group of these components into a single logical unit. NETDEVs can be equipped with built-in intelligence, which includes an extensible set of internal models, such as fast commissioning, optimised process execution, maintenance or quality evaluations. These internal functionalities can be added to NETDEVs by the component suppliers, with the following benefits:
I-RAMP³ will contribute to the transformation of the European manufacturing industry, in particular SMEs, into knowledge-based businesses. Added value will be created by integrating technical know-how into machines and tools, thus giving the industry a competitive advantage. The new technology is a major step towards the flexibility and sustainability of European manufacturing. In particular, the following impacts are expected:
